It is only 8 kilometers away from Roses. A Girona municipality that brings together all the attractions to enjoy a privileged vacation. Channels for sailing, beaches, protected areas, sports or medieval architecture. The offer is extensive and new interesting proposals are added every year.
EMPURIABRAVA: 24 KM OF NAVIGABLE CHANNELS
Castelló d’Empúries comprises two population centers, the medieval town and Empuriabrava, the largest residential marina in Europe. This layout of navigable canals, inspired by classical Venice, attracted a large number of foreigners of high economic level in the 70s.
Today, 50 years later, the space continues to be a unique destination for sun and beach tourism, with a recreational offer that includes everything from sports such as sailing, windsurfing or kite surfing, to more daring proposals. There you will find the Skydive Empuriabrava, an internationally recognized skydiving center, as well as a wind tunnel that simulates free fall.
PROTECTED SPACES AND MEDIEVAL CITY
Apart from the canals and leisure activities linked to the sea, another strong point of Castelló d´Empúries has to do with nature. The Parc Natural dels Aiguamolls is a spectacle for bird lovers and allows you to learn about an extensive sample of native flora and fauna up close. All this in the middle of the Bay of Roses, with more than 45 km of beaches and shallow coves of unique beauty.
The attractiveness of Castelló d’Empúries also has a lot to do with its historical and cultural heritage. The municipality, which played a very important role in medieval times, conserves a sector of the wall and moat that is very well preserved and contains a good number of outstanding buildings, such as the Basilica of Santa María, the Gallarda portal, the History Museum. Medieval Curia-Prisión, or the Ecomuseu-Farinera, an old flour mill that shows the way of working of bread professionals.
